Why I am waxing rhapsodic on such a simple pleasure? Eating broccoli is, after all, a mundane experience. As a dad, how often did I default to throwing a little of it on a plate with cheese sauce so my kid could have some green in his belly?
Elegant phraseology, Jim. Love the ‘waxing rhapsodic’ – not enough of that about broccoli, for certain! I know the feeling of the ‘last thing they bought’ that was in the fridge, the last bar of soap or bottle of shampoo, the last damn bottle of furniture polish, every ‘last’ makes a little paper cut. But I also learnt that I can take something with me. J made me appreciate – really appreciate – spinach and beetroot and they’re both great additions to my diet (took 24 years), so I buy them and eat them and I think of him. So sometimes, do the fish Dad’s way and savour that too. You can have both and enjoy them both and Dad can go with you on the journey too.
