I don’t believe the brain eating thing either, I think it is just part of the ‘scary monster’ story that the tabloid press like to use. I do understand the guards. Remember, this is a secure hospital he was in at that point, not a prison, so the guards are part nurse. They are not armed and, back then, anyway, they would not have had access to MACE or Tazer or anything. If they believed that the men holding their hostage would kill him if they attempted to force entry, I think they really might have to stand by and watch the hostage being tortured in the hope that he would remain alive. You actually have to have sympathy for those guard/nurses, too…

I understand what you say about him killing his parents. As you suggest, who is to say what they might have done to his trajectory in later life?
