I am right in saying the vanilla is the English version of the Spanish word for ‘scabbard’ because the vanilla pod is scabbard shaped! Last week I made a plum crisp, with fresh British Victoria plums from my garden (and some fresh raspberries) and a lightly vanilla flavoured batter. Wow!
